Season 2, Episode 4

Original airdate:  10/23/09

As you may have already heard, this is the last Dollhouse episode that will air for a while. The show is being pulled out of the November sweeps lineup and will return on December 4th with a month of uninterrupted back-to-back episodes. I’m trying not to read too much into this, but it doesn’t exactly bode well for the show being picked up next season. It’s damn shame too because this is one of the most interesting shows on television and the fact that this crazy premise actually works is a great testament to how good the gang behind Dollhouse is. According to Michael Ausiello of EW.com, Dollhouse won’t be airing in November.  At all.  It will be back in December, but odds are FOX won’t be ordering any new episodes.  Read here.

Season 2, Episode 3

Original airdate:  10/9/09

This is the third week in a row that the Dollhouse staff has messed up and Echo is left stranded in the world with the psyche of someone she doesn’t recognize and almost ends up killing someone or getting herself killed. Is it just me, or is that a bad business model?

We begin with a man (Joe Sikora) dressed in a short sleeved checkered shirt tucked into neatly pressed khaki pants and his greasy hair is parted to one side… in TV shorthand this look either means ‘nerd’ or ‘serial killer’ and since this creepy ass scene involves said man arranging a group of paralyzed women in some weird croquet playing tableau, I’m gonna go with ‘serial killer’ as my guess. And I’m right. Go me!  As he’s arranging them in poses he refers to them as Mom, Sis, and Aunt Sheila, so I’m also guessing someone had a rough childhood. One of the women starts to come out of her paralyzed state and tries to crawl away so he grabs a syringe and pumps her full of more tranquilizers, but she’s able to get a hold of another syringe, jam it into his leg and give him some of his own medicine. In retaliation he bludgeons her with a croquet mallet and then realizes he will now need a new ‘Aunt Sheila’ so he takes to the streets looking for a new victim but he’s woozy from the tranquilizer so he wanders onto traffic and gets hit by a car. Season 2, Episode 2

Original airdate:  10/2/09

Last week this show explored what it means to be implanted in someone else’s body, the fear and confusion of feeling like an actual person and knowing that you’re really not. This was beautifully illustrated in Whiskey/Dr. Saunders’ struggle to come to terms with the fact that she’s an active with Dr. Saunders’ psyche implanted in her body, she has no control over her fears or even physiological impulses like what foods she likes or how she feels about crowds… it’s all been pre-determined for her by the Dollhouse. Season 2, Episode 1

Welcome back to Dollhouse. Despite last season’s low ratings, Fox renewed Dollhouse for another year. Will it last? Who knows! But I bet Joss Whedon and Co will keep it interesting in the meantime. (more…)
